Top 5 reasons to love autumn weddings

The nights are drawing in and the leaves are beginning to turn – it can mean only one thing – autumn weddings! There is something so romantic about an autumn wedding; the crispness in the air paired with rich golden colours is a feast for all the senses. Are you recently engaged and considering an autumn wedding? Then your ideas may chime with our love for them - keep scrolling… Here are our top 5 reasons we love autumn weddings.

Wedding attire

Dropping temperatures mean longer sleeves and the addition of a second layer for the bride's wedding ensemble – a bolero or shrug to keep you warm after the sun sets on your beautiful autumnal wedding reception. Some brides are going more casual by adding a relaxed cashmere cardigan with their wedding dress while others are opting for faux fur capes with statement lining. Grooms are having more fun this time of year with heavy tweed, jewel-tone velvet and colourful handkerchiefs.

Food

Focussing on local and in-season food, you can make your wedding truly personalised with an autumnal menu. Comfort food favourites can be transformed into tempting wedding canapés this autumn – we love the idea of mini Yorkshire puddings with roast beef and horseradish, bitesize cherry pies and wild mushroom tartlets.

Venues

If your heart is set on an autumn wedding then a marquee soiree may be out of the question, unless you can hire free standing heaters to keep the chill at bay. Choosing a venue with a large open fire will set a romantic tone for your wedding, and keep your guests warm as the night draws in. Most wedding venues are sympathetic to the seasons so will often tailor the décor as the seasons change.

Flowers

Autumn is the time you can really be bold with your chosen wedding colours and flower arrangements. Consider dahlias with trailing ivy foliage for a whimsical and romantic feel. Capture the essence of autumn with playful props like gourds and pumpkins for an eye-catching display. For brides on a budget, keep it simple with leafy twigs and thistles paired with succulents and berries.

Table decoration

A formal wedding is given a luxurious edge with tall candles and ornate candelabras. For a more rustic feel, bring the outdoors in with leafy branches replacing manicured flower arrangements. Using wood and bark for centrepieces as well as place names looks elegant paired with beautifully hand-written calligraphy. Choose a jewel toned ink like ruby red or emerald green for an updated look.
