In the heart of Essex you are spoilt for choice with a whole host of wedding venues on offer. From Georgian estates, rustic country barns, luxury hotels, historic castles and more – which of these sought-after locations will be the perfect backdrop for your big day? It’s a tough call but we’ve narrowed it down to our top 6…
1. Braxted Park
A short 20 minute drive from Colchester town centre takes you to one of the most breath-taking venues in the heart of Essex. Braxted Park is a stunning walled estate and private Georgian mansion. On arrival, the dramatic sweeping driveway leads you the house which is framed by perfectly manicured gardens, two large lakes and field land which is home to wild flowers and rare birds.
Braxted Park is a licensed wedding venue hosting from 30 to 350 guests. Weddings can take place in a variety of different sized rooms within an elegant house and weather permitting, outside in the surrounding picturesque gardens. If you’re keen on a traditional church wedding then they can cater to that on site with All Saints Great Braxted conveniently situated within the grounds.

The award winning Gosfield Hall is a mere half hour away from Colchester boasting a stunning white washed façade, beautifully kept gardens and dramatic, Georgian rooms. Formerly a Royal residence, the Queen Charlotte’s Oak panelled gallery dates back to 1545 and has a 120ft long aisle perfect for your wedding day.
The dining room can seat up 116 guests with a ballroom reception hosting up to 250 people, the venue is ideal for both warmer months and the winter, with roaring log fires and beautifully decorated reception rooms available to make your wedding the magical winter wonderland you’ve always dreamed of.

Your dreams of marrying your knight in shining armour can come true in one of Colchester’s beautiful castles. The 900 year old Norman keep stands within over 100 acres of intricately landscaped gardens and woodland. Ceremonies at this historical castle can host up 100 guests with 30 more in the gallery – the formalities take place within the candlelit Banqueting Hall beneath an unmatched Norman arch, outside where kings and queen once sat in state.
Choose either a marquee reception within a pretty tree lined garden or a traditional castle soiree which can hold up to 160 guests. Not only has Hedingham Castle recently won the Hudson’s Heritage Best Wedding Venue award for 2017, they also won Best Loos!
