Winter weddings - all you need to know

November is almost upon us and a season of Autumn and Winter weddings is already well underway. Whether you’re putting the finishing touches to your wedding plans for this winter or if you’ve started planning for next year, have a read of our top six trends for cold-weather weddings – they’re timeless!

Metallic

As the nights draw in and the leaves start to fall, metallic hues really come into their own at your reception venue. Choose copper accents for your table settings – dramatic candelabra for example – or style up your bridesmaids’ outfits with rose gold heels and clutches. Be bold and choose a metallic wedding dress for a dramatic ‘Ice Queen’ bride aesthetic.

Food and Drink Pairings

Pairings have been a big thing for summer weddings, and there’s plenty of scope to pair food with drink well into the winter months too. Keep the theme of ‘perfect marriage’ going through the whole day and serve your guests Italian wine with their cosy pasta supper, tangy margaritas with guacamole or even refreshing mimosas with mini patisserie.

Hot Chocolate Bar

Forget sweetie stands; when it’s cold outside this is the perfect thing to perk up your guests – and it looks great in photos too. Fill jars with mini marshmallows and sprinkles and candy canes so they can personalise their drinks – an activity great for kids! Offer Bailey’s and Kahlua-flavoured options for those in need of an alcoholic kick – grown-ups only!

Natural Settings

Bring that winter wonderland indoors with a few simple (and cheap) additions. Time to get foraging…

  • Pine cone place card holders
  • Tree trunk cake stand
  • Bare branch centrepieces
  • Foliage-dressed chandeliers
  • Berry-studded bouquets and button holes

Cosy Tipples

Sloe gin in mini bottles make for fun and seasonal favours. Got more leftover? Add a drop of sloe gin or damson vodka to your flutes of champagne for an attractive rosy tint and a bit of a kick. A single blackberry bobbing in the top of each glass makes the perfect garnish.

Seasonal Backdrops

You may have visited your wedding venue in the summer but have a think about which areas to visit with your photographer on the day for couple shots and group photographs. From forest floors carpeted in fallen leaves to frozen lakes and frosty gardens, make sure you capture and celebrate the time of year, whatever the weather does on the day!
